Hey there friends,
I thought I would just give a little update on how we're all holding up on this ninth full day home. Overall, things are improving daily as Eyasu adjusts to us and to life in our home. He loves to play with his brother and sisters, wrestling and tickling. His sad tantrums have dropped off considerably, and are typically confined to before naptime (ok, this is a still a doozy usually) and after mealtime. He's just so sad that we're done eating, poor baby. He would eat anything we gave him, but the evidence doesn't point toward him being malnourished in recent months at all. He is in the 10th percentile on the height chart and in the 50 percentile for weight. He's got a big little belly. :D
Ok, language. You know that Ben and I have a soft spot in our hearts for language learners. Here are some words that are mutually intelligible in our house right now:
Just in the past couple days, Eyasu is saying, in context:
More please.
Thank you.
All done.
Shoes (or we use Kama, his version of the Amharic word)
Water (or Wuha)
Baby (more like vavy)
Whitton
Sylvia (dyl bia)- he doesn't do so much with Maren so far...too hard
Nose
I wuv you.
Mommy
Daddy
Eyasu
Yucky, Yummy
One, Two, Fee...Yeah!!!
Ciao!
Hi. Hello.
Ouch.
Efiopia.
We learned that Come is 'Na' and so we use that sometimes, and it's been funny to hear Maren the past couple days calling to Eyasu, "Na Here! Na Here!" Another funny Amharic word we use is Yes, or 'Ow.' It's especially funny when we ask a big long question in English which we're sure he can't understand, and he still answers, 'ow'. Cute.

Great post Susan : ) Love seeing the list of words... I'm not sure if I've attempted one of those for the girls yet. Can't wait to spend some time loving on the little guy... well, he's probably not ready for that yet, but I can't wait to spend some time "loving" to watch your lil man :) Sounds like you're doing GREAT with him and being so patient with him as he acclamates and grieves. Good job Mom!
Thanks for taking the time to update in the midst of a busy time. Continuing to pray for all of you. Beautiful.
Thanks for this update. The words are so cute. I hadn't been here in a LONG time and wondered how he was adjusting. Screaming fits are pretty normal for his age anyway, right? I know Little D has 'em once in a while. Lucky that God makes kids adaptable and quick learners. He looks happy in the pics with your kids. Love the one of Maren leading him thru the airport.
